This policy explains what SpecMentor collects, how we use it, and the choices you have when browsing the site, using an account or contacting the team.
Overview
SpecMentor provides device information, comparisons, news and community features. You can browse public pages without creating an account. Please avoid including personal email addresses, phone numbers or addresses in public opinions.
Information we collect
The information we handle depends on the features you use:
- Account information — your display name, email address, password hash, verification and account-security records. Optional multi-factor authentication adds the information needed to protect that feature.
- Activity and submissions — saved devices linked to your account, profile information you choose to provide, opinions, helpful votes, reports, device requests and contact messages.
- Technical information — network and browser information used to operate the site, maintain sessions, investigate errors and limit abusive requests.
How we use information
We use information to provide and secure accounts, remember saved devices, verify email addresses, handle device requests and contact messages, moderate community submissions and operate the website. Account verification, password-reset and request-update messages are service communications.
Cookies and browser storage
The website uses cookies for sessions and form security. Browser storage may remember an anonymous shortlist, comparison selections, interface preferences or local activity. Account records and authenticated saved devices are stored on the server; they are not stored only in your browser. Clearing browser storage does not delete a server account.
Information sharing
We do not sell our users’ private personal data.
Information may be processed by hosting and message-delivery providers that help operate the service. We may also disclose information where required by law or where necessary to investigate misuse or protect the site and its users.
Public profiles and community submissions
Published opinions, display names and eligible public-profile information can be viewed by other visitors. A public profile does not become private simply because you have not shared its link. Your email address and private saved-device list are not displayed on your public profile. Reports and moderation records are handled as restricted operational information.
Retention
Account and submission records are retained to provide the service and handle requests. Security, delivery and moderation records may also be retained for operational purposes. Removing an item from a browser or clearing local storage does not remove server records. Use the contact form for an account or personal-information deletion request; we may need to verify your identity before acting.
Access and choices
Account settings allow you to update the profile and password controls provided there. Contact the team to ask about access, correction or deletion of personal information. Device-request messages include a way to manage or stop those notifications. Self-service account deletion is not currently available.
Security
The application uses password hashing, restricted session and account controls, and measures intended to prevent unauthorized form submissions and abusive requests. Optional multi-factor authentication is available. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Links to other websites
The site may link to manufacturers, retailers and other websites whose privacy practices differ from ours. Information you provide on those sites is governed by their policies. Read the privacy statement of any website you choose to use.
Children’s privacy
SpecMentor is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in their country). If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact the team so the request can be reviewed.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as information practices or site features change. The date above identifies this version. Check this page for the current policy.
